News CTU - CTU to lead PH universities in industry 4.0

“We are in a vuca (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world,” CTU President Rosein A. Ancheta Jr. defined at the press conference on ‘Universities 4.0’  last week just how crucial is the present era thus requiring CTU’s clear direction forward with collaborators as The Institutes for Research, Innovation and Scholarship (IRIS) and Dassault Systèmes.

“We need to develop the right skills [for our students]. We need these skills in order to face the challenges in the industry of the future.”

Dr. Ancheta clarified on the main objectives of the international convention themed Ushering the New Age of Enlightenment and Collaboration in Philippine R&D, which primarily point to positively attaching a string of  definitive goals that would lead to the progress of the Philippine educational landscape.

“CTU will serve as an instrument or implementer, IRIS and Dassault as motivators,” he added.

With IRIS leading the country’s think tanks, more international entities are properly channeled to Philippine universities which lack the support system to further research goals.

The organization further encourages participants to simply create a broader spectrum of advocates for change which in a way determines the number of accomplishments related to the industry 4.0 climate.

IRIS founder Napoleon Juanillo Jr. believes in the power of universities to impact the society. “By virtue of the autonomy of the universities, they do have the leeway, creative pathway given to them by the government.”

Creativity, being the commodity of the millennia, presents a huge opportunity to students and faculty in that it allows them to think differently as Dassault Systèmes (DS) Asia Pacific South academic lead Eric Chow spoke of at the press conference.

Known as the 3DExperience Company, DS hopes to integrate most of the education applications in one environment. Chow mentioned of learning computer-assisted designs (CAD) and computer-assisted engineering (CAE) as some of the quintessential requisites to a more efficient technological platform that the academia has to capitalize on.

With 27 universities confirmed to participate in the July event, DS is deliberately raising the popularity of ‘virtual universes’ through which Philippine universities could operate.

The company brings its sustainable innovations to some 140 countries, earmarking the value of ‘smart city’ orientation clients have had.

“The role of CTU now is to prepare the human capital … for the future… . We are … creating opportunities, educating the people and developing skills as well as transforming lives,”said Dr. Ancheta.

The degree by which the research agenda and technological innovations have escalated since he became president in 2015 has earned IRIS’ confidence to partner with CTU among SUCs and HEIs in the country.

He also underscored the importance of attitude in going about the massive undertaking the university seeks to fully accomplish, which allows different parties to collaborate on projects and programs.

Juanillo affirmed the sense of positivity as he iterated on having an open mind to be able to cope with the demands of time.

CTU, IRIS and Dassault Systèmes look forward to the signing of manifesto by the university presidents as the most important output of the conference. UICP
